Creatives To Watch | Maud Passini
Lately I've found myself in a bit of a funk, feeling uninspired by the things around me. Everything I use to gravitate towards seems very boring and one note all of a sudden. What I once deemed as classic now comes off as dated. Maybe I'm just in the need of a vacation or perhaps my all black wardrobe is finally starting to bore me a bit but none the less I've been on the hunt for some inspiration to help me shake things up in my creative life.
Enter Maud Passini, the current designer that has my attention. From her ability to combine all media to create refreshing and diverse work, Maud Passini is truly a designer to watch. After falling in love with her work, I had to reach out to learn a bit more about the woman behind the designs. After a brief chat, I quickly realized that Maud is a contemporary renaissance woman. She's an amazingly talented, young, French creative with a fine arts meets design background and aesthetic sensibility. Though wonderful with her ‘hand,’ Maud has an incredibly broad range allowing her to create fresh and unique work.
Maud grew up outside of Paris with the dream of being a fine artist. Like many of us, Maud started school thinking her dream was one thing only to discover that her initial dream needed a bit of refining. She realized pure fine art wasn’t for her – too loose and not enough structure – and more importantly, not enough typography. She transferred to Esag Penninghen in Paris, refined her hand-drawing skills and began to incorporate it as broadly as possible across her work.
As you can see from the very small sampling of her portfolio above, she’s a true craftswoman. She has some of the most beautiful hand drawn work I've seen in quite some time and manages to find refreshing ways of incorporating her hand-writing and painting in her work. Take for example her work on this Cherchez La Femme project, which was done for no other than Sotheby's, Maud hand-painted the logo and hand created all of those portraits. Pretty incredible right?
If like me you are in the need for a little creative inspiration or purely just like to peruse the work of incredibly talented individuals I highly recommend checking out her portfolio. You may even see a nice snap of Drake if you look in the right places.
